The Prophet's Mosque attracts a large number of visitors, including men, women, adults, and children, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia takes special measures to ensure their safety and well-being. One of the services provided is protection from the sun and rainy season risks.
The architectural style of the Prophet's Mosque is characterized by its unique domes, totaling 196 fixed and mobile domes. The first dome was built over the Prophet’s Chamber in 678 AH and was painted green in 1253 AH.
The mobile domes in the mosque, numbering 27, symbolize modernization. They open and close automatically three times a day, providing ventilation and evenly spreading the echo throughout the mosque after Fajr, Zuhr, and Isha’ prayers.
Additionally, the mosque features 262 large canopies with grand decorations and design, spread across the outer courtyards and open spaces inside. These canopies open and close automatically to protect visitors and worshipers from the sun and rain-related risks during the day, while allowing ventilation and a view of the night sky at night.
