Travelling for Umrah by Land

Wed Dec 24 2025

The Kingdom has opened its doors to Umrah pilgrims from neighboring countries, allowing them the convenience of entering through land ports in their personal or rented vehicles. These pilgrims have the option to use their own means of transport or to utilize services provided by external agents, licensed for this purpose. For residents and citizens within the Kingdom with aspirations to undertake the sacred journeys of Hajj or Umrah, public transportation buses offer a reliable mode of travel. Additionally, they have the privilege of driving to Makkah, provided they secure the necessary permit for Umrah.

However, it is important to note that smaller vehicles face restrictions; they are prohibited from entering Makkah prior to the commencement of the Hajj season and during the final ten days of Ramadan, unless they possess an official permit. To manage the influx of vehicles, Makkah has established seven expansive parking lots, designed to accommodate up to 50,000 cars belonging to Umrah pilgrims. Upon arrival at these designated areas, pilgrims are required to park their vehicles and then board buses. These buses are dedicated to transporting them directly to the Grand Mosque, ensuring a seamless continuation of their spiritual journey. This system not only streamlines the process but also contributes to the overall organization and safety of the pilgrimage experience.
