Pre-Ihram prophetic ways

Before embarking on the sacred journey of pilgrimage, certain rituals are recommended to prepare for Ihram, the state of consecration. Both men and women are encouraged to perform Ghusl, a full-body ritual purification, or at least Wudoo, the partial ablution, as a Sunnah practice. This act of cleanliness is not mandatory but is a tradition followed by many pilgrims.

For those unable to perform Ghusl at the Miqat, the designated station of Ihram, such as travelers on an airplane, it is acceptable to bathe at home prior to departure. While ritual purity is not compulsory for a valid Ihram, it is highly advisable to do it.

Personal grooming, including nail trimming and hair removal from specific body parts, is also recommended before entering Ihram. Once in Ihram, such grooming is prohibited, so it is best to attend to these details beforehand.

The initiation of Ihram is ideally done following a prayer. If it coincides with an obligatory prayer time, that prayer should be performed first. Otherwise, it is appropriate to perform a non-obligatory two-unit prayer (Rakaah) before declaring the intention for Ihram and reciting the Talbiyah, a prayer invoking the presence of God.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized the significance of prayer and intention in the valley of Aqiq, highlighting the combined acts of Umrah and Hajj. This underscores the spiritual preparation that precedes the physical journey, setting the tone for a pilgrimage that is both inward and outward in its quest for divine closeness.
