In the sacred journey of Hajj or Umrah, those who face challenges in walking due to disability, fatigue, illness, or the natural progression of age, are not left without assistance. The act of Sa'i, a significant ritual involving movement between the hills of Safa and Marwa, can be performed while riding. It is essential for the individual to stay alert and focused during this worship, engaging in prayers and invocations, and uttering Takbir at the appropriate moments.
To facilitate this, a range of wheelchair services are available to ensure that every pilgrim can complete their circumambulation with dignity and ease. Pilgrims with disabilities can use specially designated gates to access the holy sites with their wheelchairs. For those without personal wheelchairs, free ones are provided, assuming they have someone to assist them. These can be found at strategic points around the Masjid al-Haram, including the eastern, southern, and western squares.
Moreover, there are young men trained to push wheelchairs, offering their services at various locations such as the ground floor and the second floor of the Tawaf yard, as well as the Endowment of King Abdul Aziz. For a more independent experience, electric wheelchairs are available, offering safe and easy maneuverability. These come in single and double-seater models and can be accessed on the first Mezzanine floor designated for circumambulation and Sa'i.
These provisions reflect the inclusive spirit of Islam, ensuring that all believers, regardless of physical capability, can participate fully in the rites of pilgrimage.
