The Prophet's Mosque, a revered site in Islam, boasts expansive courtyards designed to accommodate the faithful for prayer. These areas are ingeniously equipped with 262 high-tech umbrella canopies that provide a reprieve from the harsh sun by automatically opening and closing. To further enhance comfort, the courtyards are ventilated, and a cooling mist is sprayed to reduce the heat.
Encircled by a lengthy wall of 2,270 meters, the courtyards are accessible through various gates, distinct from those of the mosque itself. Spanning 235,000 square meters, they can hold up to 450,000 worshippers, making them a vast spiritual gathering place.
Visitors to the courtyards should heed several precautions. The black or colored marble can get extremely hot, so walking barefoot is ill-advised. The risk of slipping is present, so non-slip footwear is recommended. During prayers, particularly in the southern courtyard, it's important to align with the Imam, and guidance signs are available to assist worshippers in positioning themselves correctly.
In the event of misplacing or searching for shoes, especially when the ground is hot, it is advisable to walk on the white marble, which remains cool. Additionally, smoking is strictly forbidden within the courtyards, ensuring a clean and respectful environment for all. This sacred space is not only a testament to architectural ingenuity but also a sanctuary for spiritual reflection and communal worship.
