The ninth day of Dhu al-Hijjah marks a significant stage in the pilgrim's journey, known as the Day of Arafah. It is a day when pilgrims stand at Arafah, and it holds great importance in the Hajj pilgrimage. The Prophet, may peace and prayers be upon him, emphasized the significance of this day by stating, "Hajj is Arafah," hence earning it the title of the Greatest Day of Hajj. Pilgrims are permitted to stand at Arafah and make supplications within its boundaries or at the Mountain of Mercy. On this day, pilgrims combine and shorten the zuhr and asr prayers, and a sermon is delivered, following the tradition of the Prophet, may peace and prayers be upon him, who also delivered a sermon and led Muslims in his final farewell Hajj. After sunset, pilgrims leave Arafat to proceed to Muzdalifah. The Day of Arafah holds great virtues, as the Prophet, may peace and prayers be upon him, proclaimed it to be the best day in the sight of Allah.
